Are you wondering why we chose such unusual names for the rooms? Take a look at our pages presenting monastic life.
Types of Monks
Saint Paul of Thebes was the first eremite (hermit). He lived alone in the desert, but many people came to him seeking advice. Over time, eremites began to establish hermit colonies and to live more closely together, thus becoming anchorites. In time, classical monasteries developed — including the one in Vyšší Brod — where monks live together as cenobites. Cenobites gave rise to religious life as such.
We provide accommodation for individuals and whole families who wish to draw strength in a spiritual place where monks have been praying for almost eight centuries.
